How to Beat the Summer Workout Slump

by | Jun 6, 2019

Whether it’s raining or the sun is shining, don’t be surprised if you find your workouts suffering from a summer slump.

It can be hard to stay motivated to exercise when the weather is so nice. It’s easy to understand why you’d rather be on the beach with a book or relaxing on your porch with a beverage. Summer means long nights, plentiful barbecues, libations and ice cream.

So, how can you stay motivated to attend your sweat sessions in the summer amidst so much fun and temptation?

Plan ahead:

Take a look at your schedule one week at a time. The REV schedule posts new classes daily for the following week so you can always schedule seven days of sweat. You may have evening commitments or weekend weddings that force you to become a morning person or a lunchtime REVer to get your workouts in. Planning your workouts and making those reservations will help you stay committed.

Set goals:

Create short term goals that will keep you accountable. Use your plan ahead tactic to set a goal of how many workouts per week you want to achieve. You may have other events like weddings and vacations in the summer that serve as timelines to inspire you to keep up your fitness. Other goals may include adding races or competitions to your schedule that give you a reason to train and a benchmark for getting stronger or faster. We often offer 30 Day Challenges which offer an excellent goal: 20 classes in 30 days. It will help you set a routine and you’ll feel so great when you complete the challenge (and earn free classes for your efforts).

Sweat with a friend:

Studies show that people are far more likely to not skip out on a workout if it means bailing on a friend too. Sweating together will bring you closer as friends and it makes the experience more fun. Post-exercise you can compare sweat puddles and sore leg stories as you enjoy a creemee by the lake!

Switch up your workout:

Sometimes our workouts suffer from boredom. Consider adding a REV-X to your schedule to mix it up or try adding outdoor sports like tennis, kickball or hiking to your regimen. Yoga on the dock or a jog on the causeway is a great way to combine movement with the outdoors. REV now offers up to SIX strength or conditioning classes to your sweat menu. You will LOVE how you feel after a good strength workout or playing around on our turf!

With these strategies, you can enjoy the best of summer and keep up the great work in and out of the studio!
